Hello !!! Today we are remaking the classic paneer butter masala substituting tofu instead of paneer. This is a very rich recipe , hence I wouldn’t advice having it often specially for those having cardiovascular diseases This makes a great recipe to serve at a dinner party, specially if you have vegetarian guests coming over. So let’s start making the tofu paneer / butter masala. For this recipe I ‘m using 200g (7oz Tofu). You can substitute paneer or cauliflower instead. We also need chicken curry or meat masala to marinate the tofu. To make the gravy we need curry leaves (optional), habanero pepper, a ripe tomato, chopped onion, 3 cloves of garlic, cilantro for garnishing, butter, heavy cream (please check the description box below for other names or substitutes for heavy cream), salt and any cooking oil of your choice. To add a kick of spice to the gravy we need turmeric powder, chilli powder, curry powder and chicken curry powder masala / meat curry powder masala. Marinate the tofu cubes with chicken curry masala / meat masala. It’s better if you can cover this with a plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour. In a skillet over low heat melt the butter and place the tofu. Fry them until golden brown turning both sides. To make the gravy heat coconut oil in a cooking pot and add the garlic and onions. Fry onions until translucent and not brown. Add salt as that helps to fry the onions fast. Add tomatoes and let it cook for sometime until the juices ooze out. Then add all the masalas I mentioned above for the gravy. Mix together all the ingredients and let it cook for another 2 minutes in low flame and switch off the stove. Let the mixture cool down. Then add a bit of water and blend it to a thick paste. Heat a cooking pot and add butter. Add the curry leaves and habanero pepper. Saute for a minute and add the blended paste . Add a bit of water as required. Simmer for about five minutes while stirring time to time. Add the fried tofu . Let it cook in low flame for another 5-10 minutes. Switch off the flame. Now add the chopped cilantro and heavy cream. Try this recipe at home and let me know how you liked it in the comment section below.
