This Sathu Maavu / Healthy Malt Mix can be given to children either after 8 months or 1 year. This can be taken by people of all ages. If you are allergic towards ground nuts you can use roasted gram dal (Pottuk kadalai) Pasi Payaru (Green Gram Dal) – 100 g Maize (Macca Cholam) – 50 g Brown Rice (Kaikuthal Arisi ) – 100 g Red Rice (Sigapu Arisi) – 100 g Black Rice (Kavuni Arisi) – 100 g Kambu (Pearl Millet) – 150 g Cardamom (optional) Almonds – 20 to 25 If you wish you can add cashew nuts. Leaving Almonds,Cardamom and roasted ground nut , we have to roast all other ingredients separately Dry roast all the ingredients one by one separately. Make sure that the ingredients don’t get burnt. Dry roasting the ingredients give you a good aroma. Dry roast Brown rice. Transfer the roasted ingredients to a wide plate Dry roast Red Rice While dry roasting pearl millet you will get a good aroma and one or two will start turning white Dry roast the ragi little by little Allow the roasted ingredients to cool down in a wide vessel . Mix the ingredients together once they cool down completely This is Sukku (Dry Ginger) , this will give you a good flavor and aroma to the malt mix. Peel the outer skin of the dry ginger and add it . Grind it into a fine powder in the mill. If grinding mill is not available then grind it in a blender jar and sieve it well. Add two spoons of the malt powder (Serves 2) Add 2 glass of water and mix it well . Make sure that there are no lumps Boil it. Stir it continuously so that it doesn’t stick to the bottom of the pan For diabetic patients transfer little to a vessel for adding buttermilk. Add jaggery / sugar as per your taste.
